|Florian Steinbiss began his career as a journalist on topics including traditional folklore in Western and Eastern Europe and satire for the Westdeutscher Rundfunk broadcasting company and the features section of the General Anzeiger newspaper.
1981 marked his first collaboration with David Eisermann, and they later developed into "Autorenbüro Steinbiss und Eisermann". At the same time he completed his studies in psychology at the University of Bonn (Diplom-Psychologe). In 1984 the Fischer publishing house brought out his books "German-Folk: in Search of a Lost Tradition“ - “The Return of the Folk Song“ and "I'm Here But You're Far Away Now“ - Songs and Texts on the Relationship Jungle. Between 1982 and 1991 he had a second residence in Berkeley, California and thus spent his time as author, director and producer moving between the two worlds.
Florian Steinbiss has worked for all of the German public-service broadcasting stations and has contributed to such publications as the Frankfurter Rundschau, El Pais, Titanic, Das Parlament, Los Angeles Times Syndicate, Rheinischer Merkur, Esquire, Der Rabe, College Musician and Der Spiegel. A collaboration with Frederick C. Tubach resulted in radio plays for the Westdeutscher Rundfunk "Trümmerspiele" (Rubble Games) and "Der Mittelpunkt außerhalb" (The Outside Centre) and a co-operation with David Schein in "Metropolis Las Vegas", which was to be heard as an acoustic work of art at the Documenta in Kassel and in the Whitney Museum of Modern Art.
Together with his co-writer of many years, David Eisermann, Florian Steinbiss has written and produced satirical sketches for various television culture magazines and has filmed the one-hour documentary "Propaganda Swing - Dr. Goebbel's Jazz Orchestra".
The film, a co-production with Südwestfunk, was dubbed in English, French, Spanish and Italian and was shown on ARD in Germany and also on over ten other foreign channels, e.g. Antenne 2 in France, ABC Australia, RTBF Belgium, ORF in Austria, RAI 3 Italy, on many PBS channels in the USA and, not least, on IBA in Israel, making it the German film most seen abroad at the time.
Besides producing movies, Florian Steinbiss has also along career as a real estate developer and in the construction business, e.g. developing a real estate project east of Berlin, from the first plan to the last rented unit.
At present, Florian Steinbiss is focusing on film again and developing low to mediate English-language feature films. After directing and producing “Neander Jin – The Return Of The Neanderthalman” a German/American collaboration with the American actor, writer and executive producer Jeff Hixon he is looking forward to present the film on festivals around the world, especially in America and Asia, of course also in Europe. Florian Steinbiss will concentrat on foreign sales in order to gain enough revenues to be able to shoot the next movie also as a truly independent production like “Neander Jin”. The next challenge will be another comedy and English language film that takes place in Italy, written together again with Jeff Hixon. Both friends for thirty years will act in a joint adventure one more time. Jeff Hixon will play an American night club owner and Florian Steinbiss an Italian priest. It might take a year or two or even more, because that´s how long it takes Mr. Steinbiss and Mr. Hixon to learn their lines.
